Heather Riffle was born in southern Ohio and grew up around forests and abandoned farmhouses. As a child, she gathered with her cousins in her grandmother’s darkened hallway to listen to the eldest tell ghost stories. Her rural surroundings were the perfect setting for tales of romance and the supernatural, which she read voraciously.
She began writing at age thirteen and wrote her first young adult paranormal, a ghost story, at fifteen but never finished it. While attending college at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, she began writing TERRA INCOGNITA, which was inspired by a dream. She finished it while in grad school, writing between (and during) classes.
Today, her surroundings and dreams continue to inspire her work. She lives with her husband, two daughters, a clowder of cats, one dog, and a turtle at the edge of the deep, dark forest.
